Welcome to Bureau of the State House

State House and McCormack
The Bureau of the State House charter and mission is described in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 8. It is the specific responsibility of the Bureau to provide a safe, secure workplace/visitor destination for both employees and visitors ensuring that all users of this building have a pleasant secure, safe and healthy environment. The Bureau continues to efficiently maintain and manage the State House within budget, recognizing that it functions as a place of business, museum of art and history, as well as a site for public congregation.

State House Events

If you are interested in scheduling an event in the public space of the Massachusetts State House you have come to the right place. This section will introduce you to our Events Department and how to go about scheduling an event or art exhibit.

State House Operations

State House Operations oversees the operation of the State House: monitors performance of and manages private contractors for cleaning, mechanical maintenance, grounds, pest control and life safety systems; and sanctions, organizes and supervises all State House events and functions, working closely with personnel in the Legislative and Executive Branches. The office of the Director of State House Operations is located in Room 115 of the State House.

State House ADA Coordinator

This is the go-to person within the Executive Branch Entity to answer disability related questions from staff and citizens with whom the Executive Branch Entity interacts. In order to do this job effectively the person designated as the ADA/504 Coordinator must have knowledge of state and federal disability laws.

Art Commission

The Mission of the Art Commission is to preserve, restore, and interpret the Massachusetts State House Art Collection, review and approve plans for new acquisitions, and foster appreciation for the people and organizations that have made lasting contributions to the Commonwealth and Nation.

Safety and Security

The Safety Department ensures a safe and secure environment for visitors, state building customers, and employees.  The Safety Department establishes and implements safety and security policies, provides emergency response planning, oversees equipment maintenance and repair, and maintains strict key control.
